Mother's Day Flowers

On Sunday morning we dyed a couple dozen coffee filters using markers and food colouring and water to make flower petals. You also need green pipe cleaners for the stems and leaves. We also sprayed them with rosewater while they were drying to give them a nice flowery smell. They came out really cute and both Bean and Munchkin enjoyed making them. I had to help them make the stems, but they had no problem crumbling up the petals to give them different textures. Some they rolled up and others they cut to give many more petals.
We used washable and regular Crayola markers.

I flattened the coffee filters out and let them colour on them. 

When they are done colouring they sprayed water on them (a little too much, because they enjoyed using the spray bottle so much, but it only meant they took longer to dry).

They made so many! Although some of them don't look like the colour spread out too much, they did while they were drying. 

Bean also used food colouring to dye them. We put a tablespoon of water in each of the bowls and one or two drops of food colouring. Then we placed the coffee filter in the bowl and watched the colourful water creep up the sides of the coffee filters. They were so excited! Bean thought it was magic :)

Then they practiced more spraying.

The more they sprayed, the more the coloured water spread. 

Then we spent the rest of the day at my grandparents house and when we came home they were all dried and looked so beautiful! The picture doesn't do it justice. 

Then we twisted the pipe cleaners and made stems with leaves. We folded, rolled, smushed, bent and cut the colourful coffee filters and then twisted the middle of them and attached them to the stems. We made over a dozen and then we put them in a vase on the kitchen table. They were so pretty and smell so wonderful :)
