Painting With Salt and Flour

Munchkin and Bean made a lovely painting today using a mixture of flour, salt, and water. We added liquid food colouring as well. This was not self-rising flour, so it did not result in puffy paint. What we wanted was a gritty paint that would leave a nice texture when it dried. And it did!
The recipe was 1 tablespoon flour, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon of water. Then add food colouring. (The recipe is the same for puffy paint, just use self-rising flour instead of regular flour.)
This only produces a small amount of paint, which is perfect for my kids, but you can make a bigger batch if you need.

Bean immediately squeezed out all of the red paint :)

And Munchkin took his time dribbling the blue paint.

Then Bean switched and tried to mix the colours.

You really can't tell from the picture, which doesn't give it enough credit, but this paint had really great gritty texture! I wish we had used a thicker paper, because this paper dried a bit wavy, but otherwise it dried well. I would not suggest bending or folding it though, because the paint might snap. But it feels great and it still smells slightly salty. We let it dry overnight before hanging it up on the fridge :)
