Simple Dinosaur Small World

Small worlds are such a great form of play for children. It sparks their imagination and let's them role play using toys. Children can learn a lot from small worlds, which is one of the reasons why we love them so much! Bean was a late talker and we used small worlds to help build up her language skills. So when we play in our small worlds, we constantly talk about them. What the animals/dinosaurs are doing, what kinds of plants or rocks there are, what colours they are and what they eat, etc. We build up each world to fit their mood.

We put together this simple rocky dinosaur world to calm them down before dinner. They love scooping the rocks and water using these open-mouthed dinosaurs. Munchkin liked feeling the different textures of the plants and rubbing his hands under the rocks. Bean used the dinosaurs to drink water (the darker rocks are where the shallow water is) and eat the plants.

This guy really liked swimming around in the water and surprised the other dinosaurs by jumping out at them when they tried to go near his purple plant.

Munchkin spent most of the time burying his hands in the rocks. And by the time dinner was done, they were both quite calm. :)
