Simple Snowman Craft

December, despite the cold, is probably my favourite month of the year. I love Christmas and all the activities and festivities that go along with the holiday. We enjoy holiday activities daily and each day we focus on something that makes Christmas awesome. Today's theme is Snowmen! Or Snowpeople, whichever you prefer. I honestly consider them gender neutral.. I'm so excited to share this activity because it is one of our favourite sensory crafts! We love incorporating sensory aspects to our arts and crafts activities.

What we used:
Construction Paper - We used white, brown, orange and black.
Cotton Balls - Use as many as you need to fit on your snowman.
Glue Sticks - We love Elmer's disappearing purple glue sticks, because it helps the kids keep track of where they have already glued.
Scissors - These are our favourite scissors! The kids love them and I don't have to worry about them accidentally cutting themselves (though I obviously still keep an eye on them!). These scissors are perfect for kids still learning how to use scissors, especially because they only cut paper!

Take your sheet of white paper and fold it down the middle the long way.

Holding it folded in half, cut a snowman-like shape. Mine is nowhere near perfect, but it just has to look like a small ball on top of two gradually larger balls.

Then I brought out the glue sticks and cotton balls.

The kids did not need directions when they saw what I had! They simply love gluing cotton balls to paper.

This was a fun fine motor activity as well!

We only made one snowman, so the kids worked together to create it.

Once the snowman was full of cotton balls, I let it sit and dry for a few minutes while I cut out some construction paper shapes.

From left to right, two eyes, three buttons and five stones for the mouth. I didn't cut them perfectly circular because I was aiming to make the look like black rocks.

Using the brown paper I cut out two random stick arms.

I used the orange paper to make a carrot nose.

Bean glued the pieces to the snowman.

For the arms, she turned the snowman over and glued them to his back.

For the rest of the pieces, she glued the back of the paper and then stuck them to the cotton balls.

And there you have it, a super easy and fun to create snowman craft!

We decided to add a background afterwards, so we used a sheet of blue construction paper for "the sky" and I used the glue stick to make a few circles on the paper and then put the snowman on top of it.

His arms stick out, but that's ok! He is still one adorable snowman!

Please always stay within arms reach of your child(ren) when they are playing. Some sensory/craft materials may not be age suitable for every child. Please use your own judgement when creating sensory/craft activities for your child(ren).
